A few months ago, we discovered that we live a five minute drive away from Lauren Landless, the owner of S.Entwistle Clothing. We’ve been fans of the S.Entwistle range for a long time, so it was quite the coincidence to find them literally right around the corner! The brand is approaching its second birthday, so we thought it was the perfect time to take 10 minutes to have a chat with Lauren about her blossoming business…
1. Hi Lauren! Before we talk about where S.Entwistle is going, we should probably find out where it has been. What inspired you to set up your own country clothing brand?
Believe it or not I started S.Entwistle as a bit of a hobby alongside being a full time mum. I had a shirt in my head that I really wanted to wear, but I couldn’t find it for sale anywhere. So you know what they say about finding a gap in the market! I designed the shirt I wanted, I absolutely loved it and thought, “wow, I could sell these!” So to cut a long story short – I did!
2. With your second birthday approaching, how far have you come since you launched?
When I first launched S.Entwistle, I had a tiny collection of about five shirts. Two years on the brand has come so far; we now design and make our famous shirts, skirts, shooting breeks, trousers, accessories and homeware. I can let you in on a little secret too… soon we will be launching a range of occasion wear and menswear! It’s really exciting seeing my brand grow further than I ever imagined it would.
3. What has been your favourite article of clothing that you have made?
Obviously I love everything we make here, but my favourite piece definitely has to be the tweed shirt. I searched and searched to see if there was a tweed shirt on the market, but again, I couldn’t really find what I was looking for. I feel like the tweed shirt is the S.Entwistle niche, and they are our most popular item. I just love them!
4. We hear that you have opened an S.Entwistle boutique! Where is it and what is it like?
Ah yes! The showroom is in Preesall, Lancashire… just around the corner from you! It’s filled with pieces from the S.Entwistle collection, plus knick knacks from other fabulous brands, including accessories and gifts. It’s so nice to have my own little space for the clothing and it means that local shoppers can come and check out our range. We’re not open every day, but we post our opening times on social media.
5. How do you juggle being a mum and having a successful clothing brand?
I have two beautiful children, aged three and one, and another on the way! I don’t have to juggle too much; if I need to do little jobs they will come with me and they’re great. It’s so nice to be able to balance my job and my family by working from home, so it suits me down to the ground.
6. Congratulations! So what are your goals for the future? Where do you see S.Entwistle in the next couple of years?
My two main goals were to be featured in Vogue and Tatler magazines, and we achieved that in Year One. It was absolutely amazing. We would love to develop our kids wear range, as currently we only have a small selection, so that’s definitely something I would like to achieve over the next few years. I think whilst my children are still babies I don’t have crazy goals for the immediate future, but anything is possible. I would recommend anyone to go for their dreams. If you believe, you can achieve!
Thank you so much for taking the time to chat to us Lauren, and good luck with everything! We must pop down to that boutique very soon… If you’d like to check out Lauren’s clothing range, visit www.sentwistle.co.uk, or follow them on Instagram and Facebook.
